Verdict: For EU organisations, Sluis is the better choice because it is easier to adopt (sign in with Microsoft, Google or Apple, build an agent by describing it, apps on every platform, no seat licences), clearer to run (one policy, one audit trail grouped per request, one usage bill at provider list price plus 10%), safer for data (EU-only routing, reversible pseudonymization before any provider, a verifiable hash-chained audit log) and fuller as a workspace (versioned Skills, private and shared Knowledge, spreadsheets and presentations, agent memory, scheduled agents, Mistral's models plus every other provider in one place).
The short version
Sluis is an AI workspace and a governed gateway, built in Rust, that sends requests to many providers, Mistral included, under one policy and one audit trail. You sign in with Microsoft, Google or Apple, build agents by describing them, and use versioned Skills and private or shared Knowledge in one workspace, with apps for web, macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. It is hosted in the EU and ISO 27001 certified.
Mistral AI is a French model developer. Its chat product, Le Chat, has been renamed Vibe: Mistral's help centre states that "Le Chat is now Vibe" and that accounts, plans and conversations move over. Team and Enterprise plans give companies a shared workspace with Mistral's own models, connectors, agents, Libraries for documents and admin controls.
Both companies are European and both host in the EU by default, so this comparison is not about "EU versus not EU". It is about a neutral, governed layer over many models against one vendor's models and workspace. Sluis can run Mistral's models, so choosing Sluis does not mean giving them up.

Pricing
Sluis has no subscription and no seat fee. Managed model usage costs provider list price plus 10%. With your own provider keys, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint, Sluis charges €0.50 per 1M input plus output tokens, and the provider bills separately. Self-service is prepaid with a €25 minimum purchase, no free tier and payment-method surcharges. See the pricing page for the metered checks. Workloads, budgets and a spend overview in the console keep the one usage-based bill easy to read, and you can route simple tasks to cheaper models.
Mistral's pricing page lists a Free plan, Pro, Team and Enterprise. At the time we checked, Team was $24.99 per user per month excluding taxes, with a note that the page can show other currencies by country, and Enterprise was priced on request. Team includes up to 30 GB of storage per user and data export; limits depend on fair usage terms. Usage beyond a plan can be extended with pay-as-you-go credits at API rates.
If every employee uses one chat product daily, a flat seat price can be predictable. If usage is uneven, paying per token with no seat fee tends to cost less.
Data residency and protection
Sluis is hosted in the EU and ISO 27001 certified. API routing defaults to EU-only and is enforced per request; you decide whether to allow other jurisdictions or require EU-owned providers, and these are separate settings. Because Sluis can route to Mistral, you can keep Mistral's EU-owned, EU-processed models and still add other models where policy allows.
The main difference is what happens to the content itself. Sluis detects PII and secrets (60 built-in detectors, optional name recognition) and applies your policy before dispatch: block, mask, log or reversible pseudonymization, with typed tokens such as «EMAIL_1» restored in the response. Every request lands in a hash-chained audit log you can verify offline, and retention controls decide how long content is kept. Detection is not a guarantee that every sensitive value is found, and using Sluis does not by itself establish GDPR compliance.
Mistral states that by default your data is hosted in the European Union, with a US API endpoint available if you explicitly use it. It also states that, depending on the feature, data can be temporarily transferred outside the EU to the locations listed in its Trust Center, under Standard Contractual Clauses, and that Enterprise customers can deactivate some of those features at organization level. Mistral says it complies with SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001/27701 frameworks. Team and Enterprise plans list a model training opt-out.
Admin and governance
Sluis adds per-workload budgets and limits, residency and provider-ownership policy, a scope guard that can refuse out-of-scope calls, deny-by-default MCP tool grants, and a request-grouped, hash-chained audit log. Members sign in with Microsoft Entra ID, Google or Apple, can add an authenticator app or passkey, and owners can require two-factor. SAML and SCIM are available for enterprise contracts on request. Scoped admin tokens support administering an organisation without a browser session.
Mistral's Team and Enterprise tiers list domain verification, data export, an Admin API and audit logs; Enterprise adds SAML SSO, custom models, agents and workflows, and white-label options. Some of these are Enterprise-only on the page, so confirm your tier.
Models, agents and tools
Sluis lets you pick models per use case through sluis/* aliases or provider/model ids, and exposes OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic Messages endpoints so existing applications and coding agents can connect by changing a base URL. Agents and Skills are built by describing them in a chat, external tools connect through MCP under the same gate, and Knowledge can be private or shared. You can compare models and switch without changing tools.
Mistral gives you its own model family, including its coding agents, document OCR and speech models, with a consistent product experience and a direct relationship with the maker.
Who might still pick Mistral
- You want Mistral's models specifically, and a European model maker as your single vendor for chat, API and coding agents.
- You value a direct relationship with the model developer, including custom model work and private deployments from Mistral itself.
- You already have Mistral contracts, and consolidating on one vendor is easier to approve than adding a layer.
Running Mistral models through Sluis keeps EU-owned models and adds governance. For the wider field, see European ChatGPT alternatives for organisations.
Our verdict
Sluis wins for EU organisations: easier to adopt (one sign-in, one workspace, no seats), clearer to run (one policy, one audit trail, one usage bill) and safer for data (EU-only routing, pseudonymization before dispatch, a verifiable audit chain, optional self-hosting through Sluis Edge). You keep Mistral and gain every other model. See Sluis Workspace and pricing.
FAQ
Is Le Chat still a product?
Mistral's help centre says Le Chat is now Vibe, Mistral's unified agent for professional productivity and coding. Plans and conversations move with your account. Some pages and documents still say Le Chat.
Can Sluis use Mistral models?
Yes. Mistral is a supported provider, EU-owned and EU-processed. Use a mistral/... model id or a sluis/* alias, within your residency policy.
Is Mistral's data really kept in the EU?
Mistral states EU hosting by default, with a US endpoint available explicitly and some features that can transfer data outside the EU. Check the Trust Center subprocessor list for the features you use. In Sluis, EU-only routing is the default and is enforced per request.
Which one is cheaper?
For heavy daily use of one chat product, a seat price can be simpler. For uneven use, Sluis charges provider list price plus 10% with no seat fee, and you can choose cheaper models for simple tasks. Compare using your own volumes.
Do I need Sluis if I already use Mistral?
Sluis helps as soon as you need more than one model vendor, pseudonymization before dispatch, a verifiable audit chain, or one gateway for applications and agents as well as chat. If Mistral models are all you will ever use, you may not.
